12th Annual Hilton Head Island Motoring Festival & Concours d’Elegance
The Hilton Head Island Motoring Festival & Concours d’Elegance, one of the nation’s largest and fastest-growing automotive and motorsports enthusiast event weeks, has selected Porsche as the Honored Marque for the 2013 Festival. Over 62 years of Porsche history, including the cars and personalities that created one of the world’s most iconic brands, will be celebrated throughout the Festival, held October 25 – November 3.
Both Motoring Festival venues will honor the contributions Porsche has made to the automotive industry: Hutchinson Island’s The Westin Savannah Harbor Golf Resort & Spa (Savannah Speed Classic) and Hilton Head Island’s Port Royal Golf Club (Concours d’Elegance, Motoring Midway and Car Club Jamboree).
“With the focus on Porsche motorsport at the Savannah Speed Classic and Porsche classic cars highlighted at the Concours d’Elegance, we offer unique back-to-back opportunities for Porsche enthusiasts, owners and collectors to immerse themselves in the heritage of their favorite brand,” said Carolyn Vanagel, the Festival’s President. The Motoring Festival and its signature events is one of only very few national automotive gatherings to combine racing, collecting, enthusiast and lifestyle activities within one action-packed week.
The iconic design, authentic sports car soul and legendary performance of Porsche are all reasons the German automaker has produced some of the world’s most collectible and coveted cars. As the 2013 Honored Marque, Festival guests will be able to enjoy the complete story board of Porsche evolution, from its earliest roots as a sports car manufacturer to the 50th anniversary of the Porsche 911 this year.
“The Hilton Head Island Concours is a great way for Porsche to continue the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the 911, and we look forward this memorable occasion,” said Michael Bartsch, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, Porsche Cars North America. Bartsch will also serve as a Guest Judge.
Motoring Festival to Feature Two Judged Classes for Porsche
The Hilton Head Island-based Concours d’Elegance (Sunday, November 3) will include two judged classes specific to Porsche, including pre-911s and post 356s (through 1973). In addition, one Concours class of racers will be judged at the Savannah Speed Classic the weekend prior (October 25 – 27) at Hutchinson Island’s “Grand Prize of America” Race Track. This class will feature a number of racing marques, including Porsche, and the class winners will be recognized at the Concours the following weekend.
The Car Club Jamboree (Saturday, November 2) and the Motoring Midway (November 2 – 3) will also feature un-judged exhibits and car clubs representing Porsche.
Tickets for the 2013 Motoring Festival will be available for sale online (www.HHIMotoringFestival.com) starting spring 2013, just in time for Father’s Day.
