We are excited to offer on behalf of one of our customers, this very original, un-restored and gorgeous 1978 Porsche 930 Turbo Coupe.

For many years, 2shores has been offering selected first grade examples of collectible automobiles. This outstanding 930 Turbo Coupe is one of those offerings!

Porsche 930 History:
Porsche made its first and most significant changes to the 930 for the 1978 model year, enlarging the engine bore by 2 mm to a total displacement of 3,299 cc and adding an air-to-air intercooler. By cooling the pressurized air charge, the intercooler helped increase power output to 300 PS (221 kW; 296 hp) at 5,500 rpm and 412 N⋅m (304 lb⋅ft) of torque at 4,000 rpm (DIN).

The rear ‘whale tail’ spoiler was re-profiled and raised slightly to make room for the intercooler and the spoiler was now infamously called the ‘tea tray’ spoiler by the enthusiasts. The suspension benefitted from new anti-roll bars, firmer shock absorbers and larger diameter rear torsion bars. Porsche also upgraded the brakes to units similar to those used on the 917 race car.

Changing emissions regulations in Japan and the United States forced Porsche to withdraw the 930 from those markets in 1980.

The 930 remained available in Europe.

Our car on offer:
This is a highly original and un-restored 1978 Porsche 930. Finished in Paint to sample (PTS) Gold over black leather, it is a very, very rare color combination.

Produced in November of 1977, this car was part of the very first batch of the new 3.3l Intercooler Turbos. Factory equipped with LSD (limited slip) this car is fully numbers matching and has enjoyed only one family ownership since 1979.

Over the years, the car has been treated well and was nicely maintained. A detailed service history logbook is available. With only 72330 miles in 47 years, the car can be considered a low mile, survivor example.

The body is straight and rust-free but the paint shows some significant imperfections, particularly on the passenger side door and rear fender. Of course, it has its share of chips and scratches all around, just as expected for a 47 year old car that’s been enjoyed and driven.
The floors are solid with no evidence of corrosion or accident history.

The black leather interior is generally in good, useable condition with some overall patina as expected. Both front seats are separating along some seams, please see photos. All gauges function correctly.

Engine/transmission: A recent full inspection of the car revealed (report can be provided on request) cylinder #2 being of low compression and higher leak down numbers, likely caused by weak rings and exhaust valve.
It should be noted, that the car runs fine, still feels strong on boost and does not smoke excessively. The typical head stud issue with those Turbos had been addressed in 1997 when those were upgraded to 993 studs. The 3rd gear synchro is also a little finicky and should be getting attention.

This is a very rare buying opportunity for a survivor type, all original, PTS, low mile early Turbo 930.

Yes, the car has some need for attention and that is reflected in our asking price.

Please study all the photos closely to evaluate the condition of this car!
